What is the reason for this website?

This website is mainly a documentation of the village Mestlin. It describes the history and the present of this village.

The author

In 1728, my great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather Hans Garling became lease-holder in Mestlin. Together with his wife Maria, nee Mayer, he established the line of Garlings in Mestlin / Ruest. His ancestors can be traced back even longer in that area: Hans Garling (most likely a great-great-great-grandfather of that Hans Garling from Mestlin) already paid taxes in Oldenstorf in 1540.

My grandfather was still born in Mestlin, his sister Meta Konow died in the sixties in Mestlin - that's when the traces of Garlings in Mestlin unfortunately, died out.
